Marc Jacobs Makeup Line in the Works

Designer Marc Jacobs revealed the big news to WWD, saying: “We currently are working on defining what Marc Jacobs cosmetics will be, what they’ll say, what makes them distinctive.” There’s no doubt that Marc’s cosmetics will stand out of the crowd. He really seems to get how women think in terms of makeup. “The idea of choosing a color for your lip, or an eyeliner — it’s just such a delight,” says Marc. “The ritual of waking up and making those choices is something people really enjoy.”
There are very few details on Jacobs' collection at the moment and a target launch date has not yet been decided. However, the creator revealed to WWD April 3 that he's working with international beauty giant Sephora on the line and had his first meeting for the color collection last week.

"I see makeup, fragrance -- everything, really -- as an opportunity. The idea of choosing a color for your lip, or an eyeliner -- it's just such a delight. The ritual of waking up and making those choices is something people really enjoy," said the designer.

Fashion and cosmetics have long been intertwined for many of the established design houses. Chanel, Dior, Armani and YSL all have big ranges and seasonal launches to compliment their clothing and accessories collections. And the market obviously still has space for new names to make that crossover from clothes into cosmetics. For his autumn/winter 2012 Marc by Marc Jacobs show, skin was again matte and eyes left bare. It was all about the crimson, almost cartoon-like lip, using Shiseido. So from Jacobs, we could be looking at flawless skin with bold fashionable statements thrown in for fun. NARS and Shiseido are both brands known for great staples with the occasional penchant for a quirky fashion-led launches. It seems likely that Marc Jacobs would go down a similar path. But who knows? Let the speculating begin.
